Homemade CD

Hello all! I am visiting a friend soon and we are exchanging cds. The inspiration for making the entire case from scratch came from my lack of case yet abundance of bristol board. I designed the album art all by hand, wrote all the names of the songs on the inside by hand, and created the cd sleeves too. You can see how I created enough space to allow myself to attach a sleeve. It took a lot of thinking but I finally got the design down pat. The full demesions are 5.5 inchx 5.75 inch (when closed) and colored with pen and prismacolor. It's entitled "The Album" to be boringly humorous.

Doing Paint

This is the first piece ive done since school let out. i needed to paint or create it was crazy how much i missed it. but the canvas i used was an old one that i had painted about 7 years ago. I used basic acrylic paint and i loaded it up on the canvas and propped it up overnight so it would drip and do its own thing. then the next day i had filled in places where i wanted more color like the blue parts and white parts. then i cut squares (3 of them) and painted them in the same style as the background. i load a circular sponge up with paint and dabbed it in the wet paint of the canvas and on the dry parts. i painted on posterboard the same way as the canvas then cut it into strips and pasted it on the board. the LIQUITEX the whole thing to give it a finished shiny look.

Barbie

This is a piece inspired by my barbie calender. I did not trace the Barbie, as a lot of people thought. I looked at many retro Barbie designs and incorporated those into what I believed she should look like. I used gold and silver leaf as well as spray paint. it's "high fashion".

Photography

These are some altered photographs for my breadth. I took both of them over the summer.

Desolation

This is an image i took myself AND photoshopped. i know, i know, im ingenious. I needed to add some more images toward my breadths because i dont quite have enough. I thought that editing this photo would show all my abilities as an artist. I do not photograph much but I loved how my camera (not a very good one might I add) caught the grains of sand wiping through the air. The little piece of dried seaweed looks deserted and dead and my cousin's face in the background makes me feel like there is no hope, as if everything is decaying and becoming destroyed, or desolated.

Concentration 003

This is one of my favorite pieces. I found the bicycle image on the cover of a Gourmet magazine 6 months ago and couldnt let it go in hopes that i would one day use it. This piece is also part of my concentration. To create it I used found images, string, buttons, and tissue paper.

Emma

This piece was inspired by my little sister Emma and one of my favorite cities ever; Paris. I dont usually use pink in my work so this was a big leap of faith for me. Overall, i think the usage of the oversized button really worked. I used found images, string, tissue paper, card stock, and buttons in creating this piece.

Comporium Illistration

This was the piece that won for the short story "The Scream." I am super proud of it and i think it is quite adorable, not to toot my own horn. I used magazine clippings, lace, and string to create it. She is running from the beast btw. The demesions are 10 by 10.

Urbinization

This piece is one of my favorites. This is a continueation of my concentration that was demonstrated in my woman's suffrage peice. This piece focuses on westword expansion, the rise of the "cowboy", and settlement the rise of manufacturers in rural areas. I used liquitexed images, newprint/images, thread, and tissue paper.

Women's Suffrage Piece

This was the piece I entered into the SC art scholarship i want. This, to me, is the first piece for my concentration. I used liquitexed images, tissue paper, magazine print, thread, hook and eyes, lace to create it.

Stilll Life

This piece was created from layering thread, newsprint, spraypainted paper, and tissue paper as the background. I India inked the drawing on the background. I've never used India ink beforeand I think it turned out to be pretty successful.
